Join the Schuylkill River Greenways NHA and Fork & Ale for an Opening Trail Day Celebration on Saturday April 7 from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Event will take place at the Fork & Ale, our newest Schuylkill River Trail adopt-a-trail member, located at 1281 East Main St. (Route 724) in Douglassville. Participants can choose from two options, both beginning at 11: a trail cleanup or a group bike ride.

Please note that these events take place simultaneously, therefore it is not possible to participate in both the ride and the cleanup.
Trail cleanup will take place along the Berks County section of the Schuylkill River Trail, near Fork & Ale in Union Township. Activities will include raking, pruning back overgrowth, and litter pickup to get the trail ready for spring. All cleanup volunteers will get a free beer courtesy of Fork & Ale!
Bike ride will take place along the Schuylkill River Trail to the connecting Hopewell Big Woods Trail. It will consist of a short ride totaling about 5-miles round-trip. The Big Woods Trail is a steady incline with switchbacks for about 2-miles. At the top we will rest to enjoy the beautiful view of Monocacy Hill in the distance, and we will hear a presentation about the area’s geology from Geologist Rob Kuhlman. We will also hear from Hopewell Furnace National Historical Site Manager David Blackburn who will speak about Hopewell’s history. This event is part of the Circuit Trails network of trails opening day celebration. It is free and open to everyone, but please register so we know how many people to expect!
All participants are invited to join us after the clean up or bike ride for a group photo to be taken beside Fork & Ale’s new Adopt-a-Trail signs. Trek Bikes of Pottstown will also be on site with an e-bike available to test ride.
