Dialogues with Darwin

American Philosophical Society Museum. Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution through natural selection has produced more dialogue than any other scientific idea in modern history. In the museum gallery, commissioned artwork and visitor responses will be combined with a selection of books, letters, and manuscripts from the American Philosophical Society’s own Darwin collection, the largest outside of Cambridge, England.

Public Treasures/Private Visions: Hudson River School Masterworks

This exhibit is a rare opportunity to see paintings that seldom travel outside of New York City, as well as paintings from superlative select private collections of Hudson River School art. Includes works by Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Asher Durand, Frederic Church, Jasper F. Cropsey, Frederick Kensett, Martin Johnson Heade, William Stanley Haseltine, Sanford R. Gifford and Thomas Moran.

Fulfilling a Prophecy

Univ of Penn Museum. Histories of PA declare that all but a few elderly Lenape people left the state in early 1800s. Yet children of Lenape-European marriages stayed, covertly practicing their traditions and avoiding discovery for more than 200 years. Their descendants tell their story in this exhibit organized by the Penn Museum with the Lenape Nation of PA. Features objects from private and the Museum's collections and historic photographs.

Moore Adventures in Wonderland

This Marianne Moore and Alice in Wonderland inspired installation, created by Rosenbach Artist-in-Residence Sue Johnson, investigates the Rosenbach’s extensive Lewis Carroll and Marianne Moore collections and uncovers unexpected connections between the two.

Lace in Translation

The Design Center at Philadelphia University. European and Canadian art/design teams explored the historic Quaker Lace Company collection and were commissioned to create new, site-specific works for installation in the Center’s galleries and adjoining grounds.

In celebration of National History Month, this one-act play showcases how a woman's life and love could be singularly tracked through her relationship with a Hopewell Stove. Five performances:

March for Parks

9-12 a.m. Volunteer groups and individuals are invited to work with members of the Friends of Hopewell Furnace and the French Creek State Park Trails Association to prepare roads, trails and grounds of these parks for spring and summer seasons. Snacks and drinks will be provided. At 1:00 p.m. a special performance of the one-act play "From Out the Fiery Furnace," will be held in the historic Church House near the park's entrance gate.Call 610-582-8773 to volunteer.

The Revolutionary River Film Philadelphia Premiere

On Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m. the Schuylkill River Heritage Area will premiere the public television documentary, The Revolutionary River, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Revolutionary River Schuylkill County Premiere
March 27, 2010
On Saturday, March 27 at 7 p.m. the Schuylkill River Heritage Area will hold the Schuylkill County premiere of the public television documentary, The Revolutionary River, at the Sovereign Majestic Theatre in Pottsville. The event will be immediately followed by a meet-the-producer dessert reception at the Historical Society of Schuylkill County. $30 per person/$50 per couple. Advance registration required.
