On Saturday, July 11th over 100 kayakers will take to the river for a one-of-a-kind paddling event and festival to celebrate the unique historical significance of the Schuylkill River and Fort Mifflin on the Delaware. The event will begin at the Walnut Street dock and kayakers will paddle through the heart of Philadelphia decked out in red, white and blue, creating an amazing spectacle for visitors and residents to view and cheer on the flotilla from the river bridges. Paddlers will also be accompanied by SV First Light, Phila Sail, a family-owned sailboat company that specializes in historic river trips.
The flotilla will paddle eight miles, led by experienced river guides, to Fort Mifflin, the “Fort that Saved America,” to continue the celebration. Food, beverages, and ice cream, along with tours and a cannon firing, await the paddlers and guests at Fort Mifflin!
Not paddling? You can still join the fun at Fort Mifflin and celebrate with us! Great food and fun await you along with tours of the historic fort when you join us for the dinner portion of the Phlotilla!
Kayak rentals are available through our partner outfitter, Take it Outdoors. If you will be bringing your own kayak, you can read through the details in the registration information. This event is recommended for paddlers with experience on moving water; it is not recommended for beginners.
