Stewardship Profile: Candy Trace

Candy Trace became a supporter of Schuylkill River Greenways after her first Sojourn with her brother Bill in 2006. Her history with the river, however, traces back to her childhood. Candy recalls long days with her brother, fishing and playing in the river-a very different river than we enjoy today.
“I would stand there with my brother and see refrigerators and sofas in the water! When I’m on the river now, I’m amazed at how healthy it is, how clear the water is, and how much aquatic life is back,” Candy shared. “I feel such a sense of pride knowing that I am part of that revitalization, that improvement, because I support the Schuylkill River Greenways through the Stewardship Fund.”
You may recognize the Trace name from the scholarship in memory of Candy’s late brother, Bill, that the family funds each year to introduce new people to the Sojourn and the river.
Candy, now retired from a career as a nurse, tries to spend as much time on the river and trail as possible. She’s known to strike up conversations out on the trail just to tell people about the amazing resources we have in the Schuylkill and the need to support and preserve it.
