We are thrilled to welcome Merek Cometa to the Schuylkill River Greenways team for summer 2026 as an AmeriCorps VISTA.  Merek will be working on some research projects that highlight the history and significance of our National Heritage Area. We asked few questions to get acquainted, and here’s what he had to share:

What’s your favorite section of the SRT? My favorite parts are the Schuylkill Canal and Manatawny Creek

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? I would travel Australia because there are kangaroos and lots of nature.

What are you most looking forward to in working at SRG?Getting to know the team and spending time on the river!

What are you reading, watching, listening to these days? I am reading Fahrenheit 451 and watching Love Island

What do you enjoy outside of work?  I enjoy spending quality time with my family, friends, and two dogs. Also, taking care of plants and being active outside (and in general)! I also played the alto saxophone for over 10 years.
