A former Pennsylvania Railroad bridge in Auburn will be rehabilitated as part of the extension of the Schuylkill River Trail. The Auburn Gap Project will reopen the bridge and build a ¾-mile multi-modal trail. The public is invited to attend the official project announcement and celebration at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Game of Commission parking lot which can be reached by going to the end of Bear Creek Road then following an unnamed road to the lot. Those with GPS, should use the address “1199 Bear Creek Road, Auburn, PA.” If there’s inclement weather that requires the announcement to be moved indoors, meet at the Auburn Borough office building located at 451 Pearson St.
After the announcement, attendees are invited to bring their bicycles and join a group ride for about a mile to the actual Auburn Bridge using the Schuylkill River Trail. The bridge is just south of “The Chutes,” a popular and fast-moving section of the Schuylkill River in Auburn that runs underneath a railroad.
