Join this unique evening glow paddle along the Schuylkill at Lock 60 in Mont Clare.
About this Event
Must be 16 or older to participate. This event is limited to 15 participants.
Enjoy an Outdoor Dinner at the Historic Lock 60
Participants will begin the event by enjoying an outdoor dinner alongside the Schuylkill Canal and the locktender’s house at Lock 60. The lock is the only restored, operating lock remaining of the Schuylkill Navigation System.
Kayak Along the River & Glow Paddle Along the Canal
After dinner and a welcome from Schuylkill River Greenways, Take It Outdoors will give a brief introduction to kayaking before participants begin by paddling the Schuylkill River to the portage at Longford Park access. At the portage, paddlers will learn more about the Schuylkill River and Schuylkill River Trail. As darkness falls, boats will be decorated with glow sticks for a picturesque glow paddle up the Schuylkill Canal for a return to Lock 60.
Food, Gear, & Guides
Food will be provided. All gear, such as boats, paddles and personal floatation devices, are included. If you have a special request for a boat, please contact Take It Outdoors Adventures directly at the email noah@takeitoutdoorsadventures.com or call 610-656-3969. Certified guides will lead the group bike ride and paddle.
More Details
All participants will be required to wear the provided personal flotation device. Regardless of skill level, everyone will receive a safety briefing before beginning the excursion. Participants must register in advance. A meal, guides, boat and all other gear are included with each registration. The cost is $38 per person.
All participants will need to sign a Schuylkill River Greenways Waiver and a Take It Outdoors Adventures Waiver. Parents or guardians will need to complete the waiver for anyone under 18 years old. These waivers can be signed electronically, and MUST be completed by noon on Aug. 19, 2021. If you don’t sign the electronic waivers by this time, you will need to complete them in person on the day of the event. Anyone who doesn’t complete the waivers will not be able to participate.
