CAUTION: A tree has fallen into the river left opening of the Titus Wing Dam (at River Mile 71.3), causing a hazardous strainer situation in this strong current. Until this hazard is removed, DO NOT attempt to run this chute! Portage on river right around the dam. (February 22, 2023)
This Pedal & Paddle program is a round-trip adventure, beginning and ending from Valley Forge National Historical Park.
Must be 16 or older to participate. This event is limited to 15 participants.
At Norristown Riverfront Park, the group will learn about Schuylkill River Greenways, then receive a brief introduction to bicycling from Take It Outdoors before doing a 4-mile ride along the Schuylkill River Trail. Participants will use bicycles from the free Pottstown-based bike share program. Everyone will stop at Valley Forge (Betzwood Picnic Area) to enjoy a meal, while learning about Valley Forge National Historical Park from a ranger.
After the meal, the group will exchange their bikes for boats. Take It Outdoors will give a brief introduction to kayaking before everyone paddles along the Schuylkill River to return to Norristown Riverfront Park.
Food will be provided. All gear, such as bicycles and boats, are included. If you have a special request for a boat, please contact Take It Outdoors Adventures directly at t the email email@example.com or call 610-656-3969. Certified guides will lead the group bike ride and paddle.
All participants will be required to wear the provided personal flotation device. Regardless of skill level, everyone will receive a safety briefing before beginning the excursion. Participants must register in advance. A meal, guides, bike, boat and all other gear are included with each registration. The cost is $43 per person.
All participants will need to sign a Schuylkill River Greenways Waiver and a Take It Outdoors Adventures Waiver. Parents or guardians will need to complete the waiver for anyone under 18 years old. These waivers can be signed electronically, and MUST be completed by noon on Sept. 3, 2021. If you don’t sign the electronic waivers by this time, you will need to complete them in person on the day of the event. Anyone who doesn’t complete the waivers will not be able to participate.
