Waivers: You and every person you sign up to participate in this event will need to sign the two waivers listed below. Parents or guardians will need to complete the waiver for anyone under 18 years old. These waivers can be signed electronically and MUST be completed by noon August 11, 2023. If you don’t sign the electronic waivers by this time, you will need to complete them in person on the day of the event. Anyone who doesn’t complete the waiver will not be able to participate.
Event Location: This Pedal & Paddle event will begin from Lock 60, located at 400 Tow Path Rd., Mont Clare, PA 19453. There will be Schuylkill River Greenways and Take It Outdoors staff helping to direct you. Plan to arrive a few minutes early, to confirm all necessary waivers have been signed.
Event Description: The Pedal & Paddle program is a round-trip adventure, which begins and ends from the same location along the Schuylkill River/Trail. The excursion includes an 8-mile guided paddle along the Schuylkill River. It also includes a 6.5-mile bike tour using cruisers from the free Pottstown-based bike share program on the Schuylkill River Trail of the same length. A National Park Service ranger will discuss the historical Valley Forge upon arrival at Betzwood Park. All gear, certified guides and food are included. Must be 16 or older to participate. All events limited to 15 participants.
What to Bring: All equipment, including bikes, kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided, and a box dinner will be served. However, it is recommended that you bring the following items.
Any items, such as cellphones or keys that you do not wish to bring on the water with you can be left with staff prior to the start of the event.
Itinerary: Please note all times are approximate.
10:00 – Introduction and bike safety briefing
10:15 – Begin guided paddle down the Schuylkill River
1:15 – Arrive at Betzwood Park for Lunch and NPS Ranger to discuss the history of Valley Forge.
2:00 – Bike safety instructions and leave Betzwood Park to return to Lock 60.
2:40 – Arrive back at Lock 60.
