♦︎♦︎ Fairmount Dam
DANGER! Fairmount Dam. 39.967306, -75.186450
For your safety, Pennsylvania state law does not allow boat traffic between the dam and the “buoy line” (which, in this case, is a vertical cable barrier for the rowers). Stay well away from this dangerous low-head dam and exit the river at either:
• West Park Access (39.981523,-75.204430), or
• Lloyd Hall (39.968867,-75.185810).
To continue downriver below Fairmount Dam, a vehicular portage is required:
From West Park Access (1235 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Philadelphia PA, 19131), drive 3.5 miles to the public parking lot (near 133 S 24th St, Philadelphia PA, 19103), that is the most convenient to the Schuylkill Banks dock. From this parking lot, carry 0.2 mile on city streets, steps, and ramps to complete the portage and re-enter the Tidal Schuylkill at the Schuylkill Banks put-in (39.951710, -75.179451).
From Lloyd Hall (2 Kelly Dr, Philadelphia PA, 19130), drive 1.5 miles to the public parking lot (near 133 S 24th St, Philadelphia PA, 19103), that is the most convenient to the Schuylkill Banks dock. From this parking lot, carry 0.2 mile on city streets, steps, and ramps to complete the portage and re-enter the Tidal Schuylkill at the Schuylkill Banks put-in (39.951710, -75.179451).
For more portage take-out information, see “West Park Access” and “Lloyd Hall.” For more portage put-in information, see “Schuylkill Banks.”
