Program Description

Students learn about re-foresting initiatives at the Fairmount Park Greenhouse (2017)

The SECO program has been modified to run virtually and continue to engage college students. A new topic relating to the environmental career field and entering the work force will be discussed each week with follow-up activities to connect discussions to the real world. After each 1-hour session, participants will be asked to complete a short assignment on their own. The objective of this program is to better prepare students and emerging professionals for their future career. Successful participants who attend each session and complete all the required materials will receive a certificate of completion.

Schuylkill Environmental Career Opportunities

Schuylkill ECO for High School Students

Weekdays September-May

This career development program orients students to not only the Schuylkill River Watershed, but also the different environmental partners working together within it. Students visit a variety of locations close to their school including State, Federal, Local, and Non-profit organizations as well as privately owned sustainable businesses to learn about different careers and career paths available to them in their area. This is a career-oriented program that fosters interest in environmental and sustainability fields, and helps students network with field professionals. Schuylkill ECO is available to high school classrooms within the Schuylkill River Heritage Area/Watershed.  If you’re not sure your group location is within the heritage area then click the button below.
