Ride for the River

Ride for the River is designed to allow cyclists to explore the Schuylkill River Trail while supporting The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, which operates and maintains the trail in Berks and Schuylkill Counties and works to improve the entire trail.

Pedal and Paddles

The Pedal & Paddle program is a round-trip adventure, which begins and ends from the same location along the Schuylkill River/Trail. The excursion starts with a 4.5-mile bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail, then participants paddle back in a kayak to their starting location via the Schuylkill River.

Operation Pollination

The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, in partnership with National Parks, are taking steps to protect, enhance, or restore pollinator habitat. To combat population decline, the National Park Service launched a program called Operation Pollination to focus attention on the loss of habitat for bees and other pollinators around the world.

Schuylkill River Trail Projects

Schuylkill River Greenways and our partners have several ongoing projects that will continue the extension of the Schuylkill River Trail. There are currently 75 miles of the trail completed and when finished it will run 120 miles from Frackville in Schuylkill County to Philadelphia.

Girl Scout Patch

The Schuylkill River Heritage Area has teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania to create a new opportunity for Girl Scouts to learn about the Schuylkill River Heritage Area. The patch encourages girls to explore the region, learn about its history and protect the environment. It is designed to be fun and educational with a variety of activities that will appeal to Girl Scout Troops of all levels, from Daisies on up. To earn this patch, girls can choose to:

  • Take a walk on the Schuylkill River Trail
  • Test the water in the Schuylkill River
  • Visit a historic site
  • Make a colonial dish called “Fairy Butter”
  • Learn about hex signs
  • Design their own flags
  • Measure their carbon footprint
  • And much more!
