The Walk In Art Center is a non-profit organization founded in the belief that art and culture can positively affect the lives of all. Located in rural Schuylkill Haven, the center has 14 artists working on-site, classrooms, exhibit space, and an event rental area, The Gallery, a retrofitted industrial space perfect for special occasion. Their mission is to inspire, equip and celebrate the cultural and creative talent of Schuylkill County.
Located two blocks from the Schuylkill River, the Walk In Art Center is housed in a three-story factory built in 1887. Though a successful company for decades, the Walkin closed shortly after 1980. In 1989, the empty factory became the property of Evans’ Transportation when Bert Evans purchased the space to convert 30,000 square feet of the building to serve as the company’s national headquarters, municipal police station and a non-profit food pantry. In 2008, Nena Mazzei-Schmidt joined with Bert Evans to lay the groundwork for the Walk In Art Center, to occupy the remaining 67,000 square feet of the building. Artists studios were completed in 2012.
Today, the center hosts regular classes, events and workshops.
First Saturday Open House is held the first Saturday of each month except July from 1-5 p.m. Visit working artists in their studios, children’s activities, music, and refreshments.
