Grosstown Road Trailhead was developed through the efforts of Montgomery County Parks & Heritage Services and Universal Machine Company. The trailhead provides parking for about 20 cars and easy access from Routes 100 and 422. At this location, the parking lot is shared with a local business, so please be aware of commercial traffic traveling through the parking area. The trail crosses Grosstown Road, which is frequently used by heavy trucks and care should be taken when accessing the trail at this point. From here the trail is paved eastward, for trail users heading down river to Pottstown. The trail surface traveling up river toward Reading is crushed stone.
The crushed stone piece is part of the Berks County section of the Schuylkill River Trail is known as the Thun (pronounced Tune) Trail, currently managed by the Schuylkill River Greenway Association, managing entity for the Schuylkill River Heritage Area. The paved area is part of the Montgomery County section, which is managed by Montgomery County.
