The most pristine Revolutionary War battlefield has been unchanged for 230 years. The battlefield features educational programs and conservational activities, as well as Revolutionary War reenactments and public lectures and workshops.
The Battle of Paoli, also known as the Battle of Paoli Tavern or the Paoli Massacre was a battle in the Philadelphia campaign of the American Revolutionary War. The battle was fought on September 21, 1777 in the area surrounding present-day Malvern. On the night of September 20, British forces led a surprise attack and routed an entire American division that was under the command of Brigadier General Anthony Wayne.
In 1817, on the 40th anniversary of the attack, a monument was placed on the grave and a stone wall was constructed to protect it. This monument is the second oldest Revolutionary War battle monument in America. Another memorial, a granite obelisk, was erected in 1877. Both monuments can still be seen today, along with memorials honoring local residents who served in the World Wars.v
